Assignments and Announcements

There are no assignments for Friday or over Christmas break!

Announcements

Items coming home: TST, Pink Note, Grade Report, 6 Flags note, Boy Pioneer Note, corrected papers, Mission envelope

Items to return on Friday: Pink Note, bottom portion of Grade Report, filled mission envelope

1. All parents are invited to the party on Friday morning. We have a rehearsal for the Christmas Eve rehearsal first, then we come back to our room and play a game, and then we eat!

2. Last minute Christmas present needed? I still have plenty of Spirit Wear to choose from!

3. Christmas Eve Service is at 5 pm on Saturday. 6th grade students should meet in our room no later than 4:30 pm.

4. Don't forget your student exchange gifts! Bring them in by Friday with the name of the receiver (not the giver!) on the present.

5. For Christmas Eve - BOYS: no jeans or tennis shoes GIRLS: NO strapless or just straps dresses - please wear a cover-up over a dress...remember we are LEADING the congregation in worship!

The work is getting more difficult and with our busy day, it is hard for some to get that extra help that is needed from me. I understand this doesn't work for boys' basketball players. Let me know if your son needs extra help and we can work something else out...possible before school. We will do our best during the day but sometimes that extra is needed!

Chinese Food and Memory Work

Just a reminder to get those party slips in by Wednesday. The new Memory Work calendar for December came home today along with the Christmas Service for this year. Recitation A is due tomorrow, narrator parts due on Wednesday, Hymn 55 st. 1 & 2 on Thursday, and Hymn 55 st. 3 & 4 on Friday. I would have the calendar on the blog, but a website I use to do that is not working properly. I will hopefully get that up tomorrow.

Week of 11/28 - 12/2

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving break! My break was spent on the west side of the state in Onalaska. Lots of family time, early morning shopping, bowling, games, and lots of time with my puppy nephew, Mauer, made for a GREAT few days away; however, I am ready to get back in the classroom!

We will start practicing for our Christmas Eve service this week. Memory Work will be a bit heavier the first couple weeks of December. I will be asking for you the parents to listen to them at home and send in a slip saying that they did it well for you. This will help us out in the classroom by saving us some time.

1. We had a surprise for the students today: The Windy City Players came and performed "Tom Sawyer" for us. JG even got to be a part of the play! Because of the play, we do not have a Science assignment for Monday.

2. We got a new classmate. Curly is black and brown and fuzzy. So far he listens to his teacher and gets along with his classmates. He was a little noisy at lunch time during devotion but with a little instruction, he will learn to behave appropriately.

Week of 10/31 - 11/4

I hope that everyone was able to enjoy their extended weekends. I enjoyed attending Teacher's Conference at Wisconsin Lutheran High School on Thursday and Friday where I not only got to see old friends but also got to learn new things to help the students in our classroom. One of the most exciting classes was a Physical Education class with one of my college professors. I'm excited to implement some of the things that I learned!

We have a full week minus the half day on Friday this week. Mr. Habeck will visit our classroom on Monday morning. I also have the privilege to meet with each student's parents on Thursday and Friday. (If there is a problem with the time assigned, I am available to meet Monday - Wednesday...let me know!)

Assignments and Announcements

The 6th graders had a pretty easy morning. We finished our study of Martin Luther and watched a video that took us to Germany to the many places where Luther lived, studied, and preached.

We took the Math Test - no new assignment. We shared our land form projects and took the History Test - again, no new assignments.

The students should enjoy four days vacation with no homework!

The field trip today was AWESOME! The weather couldn't have been more perfect, the kids did well (no one fell in!) and we were all able to enjoy God's beautiful creation together! Thank you to the four wonderful moms who drove us to and from the Nature Center.

PLEASE NOTE: Folders did come home today. Pink slips and mission envelopes should return tomorrow. The Parent Consultation schedule did not make it in to most folders. I will email a copy out tonight and send home the paper copy tomorrow. Sorry!

Homework for tomorrow:

Reminder: The 6th graders head to Schlitz Audubon Nature Center on Tuesday, October 25th. Those parents that volunteered to drive, we'd like to leave the back parking lot no later than 11 am. We will return around 3 pm.

Congratulations to the 5th and 6th grade volleyball girls in bringing home the 3rd place trophy yesterday! The boys' soccer team fought hard in the consolation game but came up just short of victory. Great job to all the Crusaders on a fun fall season.

Just a reminder that the Basketball Parent's Meeting is this Thursday, October 20th. Please make an effort to attend if your child will be participating in basketball this season.

Happy weekend to you all! By now, I am enjoying the company of my family members in the La Crosse area. What a blessing that we all have to be surrounded by those who love and care for us. Be sure to thank God for that blessing today!

Welcome to October!

We will finish up our Terra Nova testing this Thursday. Any make-up tests will take place on Friday and the following Monday and Tuesday. The students have done a great job so far! Thank you, parents, for making sure your students are there each day.

The October Memory Work Calendar will be finished by Monday and posted on the blog to the right of this post. Updated grade reports will come home on Thursday along with a lot of graded papers (someone got caught up on their homework today...)!

7/8 Geography - Took the US states and capitals test today. Lesson 4 and Notes for Monday.

Announcements:

1. If your child did not show you his/her grade report on Thursday night, please let me know. The bottom portion of the slips were to be returned today.

2. About $22 was collected in our mission today in our class...THANK YOU! Continue to pray for Grace Lutheran!

3. The 6th grade will be doing the state/WELS testing starting on Tuesday. Students are reminded to eat a good breakfast, get plenty of sleep, and be ready to do their best!

Assignments and Announcements for Thursday, 9/22

Assignments:

Christ Light - Ws. 5a/5b from Wednesday which due Friday
Catechism - We finished up our study of the 2nd Commandment today, Lesson 8 ws.
Memory Work - Hymn 465 st. 1 & 2 - Have your 6th grader sing/say it to you!
Math - We took Test 2 today. Students should make corrections on the test for tomorrow
English - We shared our Final Drafts in class today, No Assignment
Literature - Study for Literary Terms Test!!
Music/Art - No Assignment
Science - Students were put in groups to read Lesson 2 and take notes. They are to come with 5 quiz questions for tomorrow and be ready to take a classmate's quiz tomorrow.
History -We talked about our lesson on Egypt. Students are to create an attractive travel brochure for tomorrow.
Spelling - Test 3 is tomorrow. Has your student been on Spelling City this week? Encourage them to do so this evening! Worksheets are all due tomorrow.

Announcements:

1. Notes coming home: homework from the past week, pink slips, mission envelopes, grade reports, notes for Boy Pioneer meeting being held this Sunday, TSTs are in your email inbox or to the right of this entry.

2. Things to return on Friday: bottom portion of grade reports, pink slips, MISSION envelopes

3. Children's Service is at 8:50 am tomorrow morning with Pastor Burgess. All parents, grandparents, and friends are welcome to join us for worship!

Christ Light - We studied the great promises that God made to Abraham and Sarah, Ws. 5a/5b
Catechism - Lesson 7 ws. from yesterday...parents: you are to fill out the "With Your Family"!!!
Memory Work - #185, 191, 213 in blue Catechism book....with references!!!
Math - We worked through problems about equal groups, Lesson 15 #1-30 and EF!
English - We edited and revised papers in groups and with partners today, Final Draft is due tomorrow
Literature - We started going through literary terms today, no assignment
Music/Art - No Assignment
Science - Finished up our discussion on weathering (physical and chemical), Ws. 3-1
History - We discussed our lesson on the Nile River Valley and the importance of the river to the people and why flooding was actually a good thing! Read Lesson 2, Notes and Wb. 26
Spelling - List 3 worksheets
Handwriting - Ws. "w" - lowercase and cursive

7/8 Geography - Read Lesson 3, take notes, and Worksheet 4-3

Announcements:

1. Volleyball parents are reminded to be here no later than 2:45 so that we can be on the road by 3 pm to make it to Immanuel, Waukegan by 4....thank you! Please meet in the back parking lot.

2. Scholastic Book Orders came in today. Those students who pre-ordered "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" books will receive those on November 15th....the countdown begins!!

Assignments:

Catechism - We took a look at the 2nd Commandment again, Lesson 7 ws.
Memory Work - No Assignment
Math - We studied negative numbers on a number line today, Lesson 14, #1-30 and EF
English - Rough Drafts for "My Favorite Colors" due Wednesday
Literature - The theme of our story, "The Cougar, the Wildcat, and the Giant" is friendship. Students are to write a paragraph about one of their friends and their good qualities.
Art/Music - No Assignment
Science - We started our study of Chapter 3 on Weathering. We read most of Lesson 1 together and took notes, No Assignment
History - We started Chapter 3 on the Nile River Valley, Read Lesson 1, Graphic Organizer, and Wb. 24
Spelling - List 3 will be on the website to the right, "Spelling City", we took the pre-test today and went through worksheets that will be due on Friday in their spelling workbooks

Announcements:

1. Please be sure to check your child's assignments each night. We have had a number of late sheets handed out in the last few weeks. This blog is very useful for asking your students what they learned today and what there assignment was and is it done and in your folder/binder.

Tests for 9/20 - 9/23

First of all...what a weekend! 3 Brewer wins, 1 Badger win, 1 Packer win - the 6th graders can look forward to a very happy teacher come Tuesday morning! Speaking of sports, congratulations to the B team volleyball ladies who played very well on Saturday at the St. Paul's, Muskego Tourney - you were fun to watch!

Here are the tests we have scheduled for this week:

Monday - No School (Teacher's Conference @ SLHS)
Tuesday - Spelling List 3 Pretest
Wednesday - None
Thursday - Math Test 2 (mid chapter)
Friday - Literature Terms Test (students will get a study guide on Wednesday); Spelling List 3 Test

Christ Light - No Assignment
Memory Work - #116, 124, 146, 167 - numbers are next to passages in blue Catechism book
Catechism - Ws. from Lesson 6 - this is due Tuesday!
Math - Word Problems about comparing and elapsed time, Lesson 13, 2-30 - EVENS!
English - Sentence Outline for Expository paragraph
Literature - We read "Cougar, Wildcat, and the Giant". Students should complete Pg. 42 #1-7
Music/Art - Students will be painting next week in class...appropriate over shirt should be worn!
Science - Took the Chapter 2 test...No Assignment!
History - On Fridays from now on, we will not be having history, instead we will put this time aside for News Currents where we watch a production by CNN and study newspapers. The students each got a newspaper toady and participated in a scavenger hunt
Handwriting - Journal writing today. Our topic: What is your favorite thing to do on a rainy day? Miss Lau's answer: In her younger years, her mom would let her and her little sister play with Play-doh!

Announcements:

1. See you at SLHS tonight - 7 pm!

2. See you on Sunday for church and on Tuesday for school...we are off on Monday for Teacher's Conference.

Christ Light - Ws. 3a, 3b, 4a, 4b...lessons from the last 2 weeks will be collected tomorrow!
Memory Work - Hymn 536 st. 1 & 2
Catechism - We began studying the 2nd Commandment today, Ws. 6
Math - We studied place value through trillions and multi-step problems, Lesson 12 #1-30
English - We started our Writing Workshop today on 3 point expository paragraphs, fill out the pre-writing map for tomorrow on "My Favorite Colors"
Literature - We discussed the poem, "The Morns are Meeker", No assignment
Music/Art - No Assignment
Science - We filled out the study guide in class, please quiz your student on Ch.2 for the test tomorrow
History - Students should make sure all wb. pages (18-23) are finished and Ch. 2 Take-home test should be completed for tomorrow
Spelling - Final Test tomorrow! List 2 worksheets should be done.

Announcements:

1. Pacer football game tomorrow - SLHS - 7 pm. I'll see you there!

2. Lots of notes coming home today - note for volleyball players, PTA handbooks, TST (email or paper copy), tuition slips, Room "Mom" note, Talent show notes, pink slips, mission envelopes.

3. Copies of grades will start NEXT WEEK. I will try to remember to put them on BLUE paper. Please look for that NEXT WEEK :)
